1. What is typically involved in a Career Guidance session for an Adult?

The typical career guidance session for an adult would involve exploring the client’s background and experience from a work, academic, family and possibly community perspective.  By exploring these areas of your life we will highlight interests, values and other aspects of the client’s personality that are important in their working life.

It may be beneficial to the client to take a personality or an interest inventory. This comprises the client answering a number of questions which help the career guidance counselor to highlight and give feedback on aspects of the client’s personality that will point to specific types of work that would suit their personality and skills set. An important part of an adult career guidance session is career planning. This typically involves highlighting all the necessary steps/stages (education/training) involved in attaining the chosen career and weighing up the pros’ and cons.

2. How does a Career Guidance session differ for an Adult as opposed to a School Leaver?

Both sessions are very similar in that it is the career guidance counselor’s job to highlight the client’s potential (skills, personality values, etc)

Ronald Reagan once said: “A recession is when your friend loses their job. A depression is when you lose yours.”

We’re hovering on the edge of a recession and having well honed job hunting skills is something which is increasingly important for American and European workers.

Just out of interest – Americans get frantic about a possible recession when the unemployment rate goes over 5%. However, in many European countries, the normal unemployment rate is closer to 10% – this is largely due to different measurement standards and a higher percentage of people receiving government assistance. On the other hand, it is a lot harder to fire someone in most European countries.

Our first piece of job search advice is to examine your monthly income versus your expenses and also to look at the rate at which you will go through your savings if you become unemployed.

Obviously, the longer that you can afford to spend looking for a job before you burn through your saving, the better off you will be in the long run. While you look for work, you may be able to do freelance work, if this is applicable to your field. In fact, in some fields, such as

What career guidance or career advice would you give to somebody that really hasn’t a clue as to what career they would like to pursue?  Education and Career Guidance, do they go hand in hand?  What importance those education and academic qualifications go toward career guidance and a candidate’s career progression?

The student who hasn’t a clue can often be very worried about this but in actual fact they are often better off than the student who sees career as a particular occupation they will have when they graduate for the rest of their life. Career is a lifelong journey and a process of continually developing skills and personal qualities that are transferable. It is far better if the student can focus on the journey rather than on a particular destination.

Education and Career Guidance go hand in hand. For almost all careers nowadays academic qualifications are a pre-requisite. However students also need to be able to make decisions and choices, plan initiatives and be creative thinkers. This is because the reality today is that the majority of the students I see will have not one but several careers. They will have to change roles and organizations and reinvent themselves many times.

Is it ever too

Here’s a common scenario (and complaint) for job seekers:  “I spend all day long applying to jobs online through Monster.com, CareerBuilder.com, or niche job boards—and I never get a response.  Have I lost the understanding of how this job search works?”

If this is happening to you, you’ve got to understand that the job search has totally changed from what it was 15 years ago, or even 5 years ago.  Today’s job search is different.  It’s flooded with job seekers in this terrible economy, and jobs are posted online, so that everyone and their dogs can apply, with just a click of the mouse.  So some of these jobs you’re seeing on Monster or Career Builder or some of the bigger niche sites are getting a thousand or more applicants—and I don’t care how good you are, it’s hard to shine in a room of 1000 people.

What should you do?  Step away from sites like those, other than looking at the job to find out who it’s with.  Once you find out which company is hiring, find out who the hiring manager for that job is.

This is where social networks come into play.  You can

Effective Leadership Tips – Advice On Leadership

Leadership is the process of directing the behavior of others toward the accomplishment of some common goal. Leadership is easily explained but rather hard to practice. Good leaders are followed because people trust and believe them, not because of the skills they possess.

Click Here to Learn How to Lead Effectively.

Some people are born leaders and some may develop to become a leader. Eventually you will learn many qualities of effective leadership like confidence and charisma. That is why effective leadership tips are most useful for a leader to refer to.

To be more efficient in pursuing and achieving objectives, you should be open to new ideas, insights, and revelations that can lead to better ways to accomplishing goals. Effective leaders recognize that what they know is very little in comparison to what they still need to learn. This continuous learning process can be exercised, in particular, through engaging yourself in a constant dialogue with your peers, advisers, consultants, team members, suppliers, customers and competitor.

Leadership is even not about creating a great vision. It is about creating conditions under which all your followers can perform

Career Advice vs. Career Development – Can You Spot the Difference?

Career advice these days comes in all shapes and sizes.  It’s easy to get “lost in the lingo” but understanding some basic definitions can help ensure you get the right support for your needs.   To put it simply, whether you need career advice or career development depends on where you are on your career journey.

Webster’s online dictionary defines career as, “a profession for which one trains and which is undertaken as a permanent calling,” and advice as, “a recommendation regarding a decision or course of conduct.”   Put the two together and you can see that career advice is usually something specific, a tangible piece of information given to meet an immediate need.  It can answer questions such as, “How can I choose the right part-time job for me?”
“What are the right clothes to wear to an interview?” or, “What professions utilise both art and technology?”  There can be a sense of urgency when seeking career advice, as the answers that are sought are usually ones that require a timely response.

Career development, on the other hand, is often seen as more of a big picture view.   While advice may be something you

There are countless career opportunities in this economy for you to create your dream job.  Why be unhappy with your career when you can create the perfect job that leads to a happy fulfilling career using a little creativity?

The following are seven secrets to creating your dream job and very successful career:

1. What Do You Want to Achieve in Your Career?
This may seem like a fairly obvious question; however, when I interact with employees who are unhappy with their careers I ask them, “what do you want to achieve in your career?”  At that point most employees can’t answer the question or I may receive an answer of, “I Know What I Don’t Want.”  I have found out that the lack of career goals is one of the leading factors of job dissatisfaction, conflict, and stress in the workplace.

The foundation of a successful career is knowing what you want from your career.  Take the time to develop career goals.  Once you have done this, break your goals into manageable pieces and time periods so that you can continuously track how successful you are in achieving your goals.

2. What Are Your Job Requirements
Now that you have developed your career goals,

Most of us have career issues in life we are unable to understand. We don’t know how to deal with them or what’s the solution to overcome them. The career we chose doesn’t give us satisfaction or it didn’t turn out to be what we had expected. It may also happen that one feels a lack of interest in everything and thus, is unable to understand the career he/she should choose. A career that doesn’t feel like a burden to be carried forever. A career one would not want to run away from.

Most of the times, the reason because of which one chooses a particular career is actually wrong. Things that were on priority while deciding for a career become extremely unimportant after a point of time. We, at Career Analysts, make sure to bring to your view the things that are actually important to you and are close to your heart. Your likes, dislikes, and your decisions are clouded by emotional pressures that seem too heavy at the moment. We do not claim to know you better than you do yourself, but we promise to give you a detached advice to bring things in to perspective and to give a better sense of direction.

We believe that everyone is born with a gift and is meant to make a career in a particular field -a career that is based on
