Motivation to Start Your Day

]]>

Today I jumped out of bed about an hour before my alarm was set to go off. I just felt like a great day coming up and wanted to start it early. It actually made me think about writing a blog post. Why was I so motivated to start my day? How can I keep this motivation everyday? Is it even THAT important?

Is Daily Motivation Important?

Umm, yes! Of course it is. When you are motivated with your eye on the prize, you are much more likely to accomplish the tasks and goals you have set out in front of you. On days I am really motivated; I avoid useless IM convos, I don’t browse the ESPN website, I don’t watch rap videos on YouTube – I put in WORK. I work faster and more efficiently, ideas spring to my mind easier and I am generally in a much better mood.

Why Was I Motivated?

So why was I so motivated to start my day? I think it comes down to something I touched on earlier in this post. Goals. I don’t think you can be truly motivated without goals. You need some underlying force that makes you want to start your day like a rocket. If you have a goal, and I mean a BIG one, then you have a reason to wake up ready to rock in the morning. A lot of people will tell you that you have to make small reasonable goals so you don’t get frustrated when you aren’t reaching your goal. I call BS

Morale and motivation are two of the cornerstones of any successful business and accompanying work environment. Simple definitions of both of these terms are as follows:

Morale:  the degree of confidence or optimism of a person or group.

Motivation:  the reason or inspiration for a course of action.

In the context of the workplace, motivation can be further defined as the employee’s intrinsic level of enthusiasm and drive to accomplish a job or task. As stated on humanresources.about.com, “Motivating employees about work is the combination of fulfilling the employee’s needs and expectations from work and workplace factors that enable employee motivation… “

As a bookend of sorts to the above, employee and workplace morale can be viewed thusly (courtesy of http://www.rahulgladwin.com): “Morale is defined as the satisfaction level of employees in relation to their workplace. It is how employees see their jobs, their attitudes to their work environment, and their honest cooperation toward the progress of the entire company. Morale also indicates the happiness level of employees within a company. It is also a condition in which long-term company goals are merged with individualized goals. Morale and productivity are directly proportional, that

Everything we set out to accomplish requires motivation. Whether it is to get out of bed early, or to sit down and make a list of 25 ways to motivate yourself. I think the biggest problem we face when taking action, is our internal dialogue. We tend to talk ourselves out of doing things even if we know the task has to be completed no matter what. Procrastination stems from our lack of motivation which in turn stems from our unwillingness to discipline our mind.

I suppose there are two ways to tackle this problem. The first..is to just cut off any thought that leads to procrastination and to just do it without thinking. The second…is to come up with different techniques which hopefully will kick-start your mind into wanting to get each task done with little or no fuss.

Of course, like anything else this is clearly easier said than done. However, I would like to share with you 25 techniques that can be used at different times for different situations to help motivate you into getting up off your ass and get bloody well moving.

A lot of these you have heard before, but as I always say, beware of intellectual knowledge. Just because you can spout a fact from your mouth does not mean you actually have a clue what the experience is like unless you try it out for
